Celebrate the Czech heritage - Houston Chronicle
Come spend a day of shopping, dining and family fun in Rosenberg's Historic Downtown District on June 16, "Czech Heritage Day."
The day will feature Cary Oswald & The Lazy Farmers Polka Band, along with the Texas Sounds Czech Band and local polka dancers.
The city of Rosenberg joins the Downtown Merchants of Rosenberg in the 2012 "Summer Fun in Historic Downtown Rosenberg" series, running the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June through September.
The series is designed to showcase downtown and to help celebrate Rosenberg's heritage through free, family-friendly activities and entertainment.
In addition to the live music and dancing, attendees can enjoy a kolache contest, the Czech Heritage Society will have a booth set up to display Czechoslovakian goods, and there will be face-painting for children.
Downtown merchants are looking for contestants for the kolache-baking contest. Interested parties are invited to call or come by Another Time Soda Fountain and Café, 800 3rd St., or call 281-232-2999 to register.
Kolaches will need to be brought to the Downtown Merchants' table by 11 a.m. June 16. Judging will begin at noon and prizes will be awarded following the judging.
Other "Summer Fun" events include July 21, "Tribute to America," Aug. 18, "Rosenberg Roundup," and Sept. 15, "Hispanic Heritage Day."
