Every year Prague Kolache Celebration celebrates the Czech heritage of Prague with polka songs, dancing, meals, Czech costumes, a celebration, beer garden, home wine tasting booths, manufactured in Oklahoma snacks, a carnival, pony rides, mechanical bull, and 100 % free entertainment.
This festivity, held 1st Saturday in May, attracts some 25,000 to 30,000 people to this unique town of 2,500. Kolaches usually are baked months in progress to arrange for the festival. Approximately a few 50,000 kolaches are generally absorbed by citizens and travellers alike during the actual festivities. A kolache is a nice bread filled with fillings such as cherry, poppyseed, apricot and more. A contest to determine the best home made kolaches, bread and wines are held in conjunction with the festival.
At 11am, an example of Oklahoma’s biggest parades starts at 7th Avenue on Hwy 99 and can make its way through the downtown area Prague ending on the grandstand in the city park on Road 62. Residents dressed in colorful and brightly decorated Czech costumes is seen on the parade route. Floats, bands, horses, clowns and more from the two-hour parade. Absolutely free enjoyment starting from vocalists, dancers, bands plus a Tribute to Elvis are usually guaranteed to you should the curiosity of all.
A polka band plays while in the afternoon at the designated location along Main Street. The arts and craft show functions jewellery, face painting, wooden art, ceramics, yard art, clothing and much more located at the Park across the Gazebo. Jim Garling will provide Western entertainment at the gazebo during the afternoon. The special guestthis year will be Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson, which will be in the elevenam parade, conduct a meet and welcome at 1pm then do an Irish Step Dance at the grandstand.
People towards the Prague Kolache Festivity may feast in locally created smoked Czech sausages, Klobase and their favorite flavour of kolache. Other ethnic foods for example Indian tacos and Polish hot dogs can also be found for the food course. A Czech costume judging contest is going to be held at 9am, plus there will be folk and Czech dancers at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 5pm, successfully adding an array of color towards the festival and bringing out the heritage of Prague’s first settlers. The crowning of the Kolache Event Royalty at 6pm is one of the highlights of a full day of fun.
At 7pm, the newest queen customarily starts off the popular polka road dance that remains until 10pm. The festivity is concluded with a fireworks show at 10pm. Come visit Prague on Saturday, May 5, and also enjoy a fun-filled day.
