Sharing the love of kolaches!
What is a kolache? There are several versions of the said kolache. Ours are inspired by the kolaches that made quite an impression on Texans to become an iconic morning treat. Easily battling any donut or bagel, the original kolaches were introduced to Texas by Czech immigrants. Following tradition, these delicious delights were often shared around the holidays or special occassions. Not to anyone's surprise they spread quickly and with growing popularity, savory varieties were born, ie the sausage with cheese varieties.
Now, add the fun eclectic Portland flavor and we have our Happy Sparrow kolaches, adding a new spectacular branch to the kolache family tree... right here on Belmont! We feature sweet and savory options from the traditional Czech poppyseed to Texas favorite, sausage and cheese, along with many other fun ones!
We hand roll our kolaches fresh each day from scratch using wholesome local organic ingredients. We start with the dough which must be soft, semi-sweet, yeasty and a bit chewy all at the same time, then we stuff them with lots of love (aka - local, flavorful fillings) and bake them to a golden delicious bun! We are passionate about our kolaches and make each with delight and special care so that you enjoy only the very best tasting artisan kolaches!
